The Raices Cultural Arts Center is the premier studio for cultural dance in the Sacramento area. It also serves as the home of some of the most talented and community oriented dance groups in the region. The goal of the Center is to foster the learning of cultural arts by providing a collaborative center for local arts organizations and individual artists.

Students can expect to learn Ken Sei Kan, a style of traditional karate and kobudo as it was passed from generation to generation in Okinawa. Ken Sei Kan is a combination of Uechi-Ryu and Shorin-Ryu karate in addition to kobudo (Okinawan weapons). Students will learn how to punch, kick, block, and stretch. They will also learn to condition their bodies and mind through kotekiti. Prearranged fighting drills called “kyu kumite” and “dan kumite” will develop the students’ accuracy, timing, form, power, and speed in order to attack and defend against opponents. In addition, a series of forms and patterns called kata will teach students the art of karate.
