Founder:
The Center was founded by Roxana Borrego. Roxana has been involved in the Sacramento Cultural Arts Community for nearly 20 years. She is dedicated to incorporating cultural arts in education and abroad. She has founded folklorico curriculums in Sacramento area schools, has served on organizational boards, and volunteered to organize many community events in our community.
In 1997, Roxana Borrego began teaching the only folklorico curriculum in Sacramento at Sacramento High School. In 2005 she rewrote the curriculum and it became the only college preperatory folklorico class offered in Northern California. Roxana is a member of the Danzantes Unidos Festival, the Asosacion Nacional de Grupos Folkloricos, the Artistic Director of Riaces de Mi Tierra, a member of La Evolucion Dance Co., the Dance Events Chairwoman for Festival de La Familia, and adjunct faculty at Cal State University Sacramento in the department of Theatre & Dance. She completed her masters degree at CSUS in 1998 and wrote her masters thesis titled “Ethnic Identity Development through Traditional Mexican Dance”.
She is currently a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a member of the American Dance Therapy Association. She hopes to obtain her doctorate degree in Cultural Studies in the near future.
Roxana Borrego founded the non profit Grupo Folklorico Raices de Mi Tierra in 1995 and has served as the Artistic Director since its inception.
